Twenty-One: A Brief Reflection

Hello, my name is Meera, I use they/them pronouns, I identify as genderqueer a “quaintrelle” in the gender = not applicable sense, and I am bi. I am also South Asian and white, to explain my identity beyond that is irrelevant to this particular conversation and people are people, I will not get into specifics unless someone is asking to date me. With that in mind… I primarily use this WordPress blog to not centre myself, but seeing as it is my birthday it is yearly reflection time!

  1. Being kinder to myself – still needs improvement but I am much improved.
  2. Doubting my competence – I need to learn to stop doing that, I am far more competent than I perceive myself.
  3. Unlearning trauma – a constant uphill climb but a battle I am not alone in, we’ll get there when we get there.
  4. Organization skills – I am far more put together than my brain leads me to believe.
  5. Empathetic – my therapist tells me it is my biggest trait, the ability to empathize with other’s pain and ill-treatment, I just need to learn where the line is.
  6. Socially and self-aware – for all I claim not to pay attention I do listen and more importantly I am inclined to listen when motivated which is often, I shouldn’t forget that fact about myself.

Overall, there is much room for improvement and much growth as you’d expect of people because people are nuanced and not remotely static. Here’s to many more birthdays and may this one be good!
